Ryots' hopes hit 'rock-bottom' as NSP water dwindles

The Water level in Nagarjuna Sagar Project is dwindling down. This situation has become a threat to the crops in Gunturu, Prakasham, Khammam, Nalgonda and Krishna districts which benefit from the left and right canals of the project.The Water level are expected to reach a dead storage level within 15 days. It now stands at 525 feet and may go down to 510 ft of the dead storage level by the end of third week of February. However, currently, the Water level in Sri Sailam Project is above 860 ft. About 10,000 cusecs of Water is being released from the Sri Sailam power plant.

At least 30,000 cusecs Water needs to be released from Sri Sailam Project by the end of April in order to save the crops under left and right canals of Nagarjuna Sagar Project.The higher-ups in the government have not taken a decision on releasing Water immediately. The farmers under the project are concerned over the negligence of the officers. They demanded that the officials release sufficient Water to save the crops.“Chief Minister K. Rosaiah must take a decision to release the Water from Sri Sailam Project to NSP,” they urged.
