Hyderabad, Jan 29: The Board Of Intermediate Education (BIE) has postponed the Intermediate examinations for 2010 by a week. The examinations, which were scheduled to begin on March 3, will now start on March 10 and will last till March30. However, the practical examinations will be held as per schedule.``Due to the pressure mounted by various student bodies, lecturers’ associations and instructions from the Chief Minister himself,the postponement has taken place,’’the Minister for Education Manikya Varaprasad said.
``As for me, I am personally against postponement,‘’ the minister added.Earlier in the morning, there were heated discussions between the officials of Education Ministry and Board Of Intermediate Education on the issue of postponement of exams when they met in the Chief Minister’s chambers. Those present at the meeting include Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Minister for Education Manikya Varaprasad and Minister for Higher Education Sridhar Babu.Sridhar Babu stood firmly in favour of postponement while the Education Minister opposed the idea and justified his idea of holding the exams as per schedule stating that national-level competitive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, etc.
will be affected if the Inter exams are postponed.In view of the deadlock on this issue, Chief Minister K Rosaiah instructed the Education Ministry and BIE officials to meet in the Education Minister’s chambers and take a decision.During the meeting in the Education Minister’s chambers, the decision to defer the scheduled exam by a week was taken.According to the sources, the class X exams will be held as per schedule.
