Hyderabad, Dec 30: Director General of Police Rr Girish Kumar on Wednesday sought to alleviate apprehension among the general public by assuring the people that any disruption to New Year celebrations would be dealt with seriously.Addressing the annual press conference, Girish Kumar said the police force would foil any attempt to disrupt festivities on New Year eve and said the police would do their best to protect citizens and minimise interference in their celebrations. Mr Girish Kumar also said that newly appointed Governor E S L Narasimhan was briefed about the prevailing law and order situation in the State.
The DGP also expressed concern over the plight of the common man, who he said, was the worst hit by ‘bandh’ calls given by various political groups in the recent days.Mr Girish Kumar said that he was looking at the law and order situation from a professional point of view and denied that he was under pressure to act tough against Telangana agitators.The DGP was also critical of the role of television news channel which broadcast scenes of violence repeatedly leading to the impression that the situation was worse than reality.
