Hyderabad ,Oct 26: The ten patients who lost their sight during the cataract operation performed at the free eye check-up camp by Bollineni Eye Hospital and Research Centre will be paid a compensation of Rs 50,000 each by the State Government.According to State health minister Danam Nagender apart from the compensation from the Government, the victims will also receive a compensation of Rs one and half lakh each from the Bollineni Eye Hopsitall and Research Cetre. The hospital will also provide the necessary medicines.As reported earlier, a free cataract eye operations conducted at Indukur, Sramiknagar and Navabpet of Nellore district on October 19 by the Bollineni Eye Hopsital and Research Cetre in collaboration with the Global Eye foundation.
Of the 34 operations that were performed in these avenues 10 people lost their sight. The ten patients who were shifted to Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai for further check up.The doctors at Sankara Nethralaya on examining these patients declared that the chances of getting their eyesight back were bleak.Meanwhile Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah asked the district Collector of Nellore Mr Ramgopal to submit a detailed report.Ramgopal speaking to the media said that already an inquiry team has already been constituted and are probing the affair. If any of the medical staff involved in the operation are found guilty they will not be spared and stern action will be taken against them fro their gross negligence.
