Hyderabad, Sept 8 : Minister for Technical Education Mopidevi Venkataramana on Tuesday said that the government would take a decision on scraping of web-based counseling for engineering seats in Eamcet as it turned controversial after students and parents alleged gross irregularities in seat allotments.Talking to media persons, the Minister said the government would convene a meeting with officials concerned to take the stock of situation on web-based counseling before taking any decision.He admitted that complaints were pouring in from several students who secured good ranks failed to get a seat, those who got ranks above 2 lakh were successful.

However, the officials blamed the students for not exercising options properly and giving limited options restricting themselves to a few colleges.Students and parents protested in front of the AP State Council of Higher Education on Monday demanding the abolition of web-based counseling.The students alleged that the process has infused tension among students on the authenticity of adopted procedure apart from creating confusion. The students alleged irregularities in the allotment of colleges based on merit and category.Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education Chairman Prof K C Reddy said that the new system was fool-proof and the students opted for colleges based on last year’s allotment pattern. The priorities on colleges and courses change every year, he pointed out.
