A meeting, held to arrive at a compromise between family members over the sharing of their property, went horribly wrong when one of them was killed by his brother under Chatrinaka police station limits early on Thursday.
According to Inspector Shyam Prasad Rao, Padma Rao (50) a resident of Balapur, had come to the residence of his brother Jangaiah at Naraharinagar in Uppuguda, to arrive at a settlement over sharing of their properties, as the dispute had been going on since the past 15 years.
The brothers reportedly entered in an argument during the course of the confabulations and led to the fraying of tempers.
The heated exchanges reached a boiling point and Padma Rao picked up a sword and stabbed his brother with it. The injured Jangaiah grabbed the same sword and is believed to have stabbed his assailant with it.
Padma Rao died on the spot due to the attack.
Other relatives immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot. The shifted the profusely bleeding Jangaiah to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Osmania General Hospital.
The police seized the sword and an iron rod from the scene of the crime.
It is not clear who had brought the sword in the first place, with both the parties accusing each other of having brought the weapons. Jangaiah’s family members claim that Padma Rao had brought the sword to attack Jangaiah and after the attack, had committed suicide assuming that his brother was dead.
Further investigations are on.
