Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 is just 5 days away from its release. Unlike the first part which had a huge buzz and hype surrounding it, the sequel is hardly creating any sound even befor it's release. Usually when a film's first part became a superhit, the expectations on the second part are soaring high. But, strangely in PS2 case, the scenario is not the same. Even though the first part scored industry hit in Tamil, it is hardly generating any buzz even in Tamil markets.
For instance, PS2 is trending at 320k from its pre-sales in Overseas boxoffice where as it's predecessor PS1 crossed 600k by this time of five days before it's release. There was a curiosity among all languages to watch the film before the release of PS1. But, after its release many non-tamil audience find it hard to connect to the plotline and characters. Thus they are least interested in Part 2.
But, when coming to Tamil audience, they embraced the film very well and made PS1 an industry hit in Tamil Nadu. It creates records in overseas markets. The total collections of PS1 crossed RS 500 crore mark globally. But, it is shocking to see the less hype for its sequel even in Tamil Nadu. The songs and trailer failed to create a strong impact. Kollywood trade believes that the tables will turn around once the film hit the screens.
The team is touring all major cities and promoting the film. A grand pre-release event is also held at Hyderabad with entire crew. Hope these promotions might work and brings the much needed buzz for the film. Ponniyin Selvan 2 directed by Mani Ratnam will hit the screens worldwide from April 28th.
