Megastar Chiranjeevi, Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna, King Nagarjuna and Victory Venkatesh were considered four pillars of Telugu cinema by the 1990s media. And true to their words, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh would give a few industry hits and blockbusters. And some of those films would cross Megastar's industry hits as well.
Balakrishna's Muddula Mavayya, Samarasimhareddy and Narasimhanaidu turned industry hits and crossed the all time records of Chiranjeevi. Venkatesh's Chanti also broke all time records those days. Nagarjuna's Siva was a trend setting film. Of course, Chiranjeevi was so consistant in delivering industry hits and blockbusters which kept his number one position cemented strongly.
What is the box office potential of the 1990s four pillars of Telugu cinema at the moment? Chiranjeevi proved he is unique and outstanding in maintaining the same stamina and stardom what he had in 1990s.
But, surprisingly, the box office potential of other three big heroes decreased drastically now. While Chiranjeevi's Syeraa and Waltair Veerayya collected more than Rs.140 crore share each, his another industry hit Khaidi Number 150 minted Rs.105 crore worldwide share. If we look into Balakrishna's hit films' status, the Natasimham's Veerasimhareddy amassed Rs.76 crore worldwide share while Akhanda accumulated Rs.65 crore worldwide share. In short, Chiranjeevi's blockbusters collections are double to that of Balakrishna's blockbusters.
Venkatesh's F2 and F3 collected Rs.80 crore and Rs.60 crore respectively. Moreover both of them are multistarrers. Nagarjuna is completely out of race in collections' competition.
BOTTOM-LINE: Fact sheet says Chiranjeevi has no competition to his image and stature now and even in 1990s. But then, 1990s media would desperately try to degrade Chiranjeevi by dragging other three biggies into number one competition promoting some industry hits of the biggies. But then, present media has no such chance to rope in other biggies to compete with Chiranjeevi as the box office stamina of the trio has decreased drastically. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi is surpassing all the top heroes of current generation as well. Rajamouli's pan Indian films excluded.
