World is waiting for 16th December, the day Avatar 2 The Way Of Water releases in theatres. The sequel is hitting the screens after 13 years of its first part's release. The film was made with a humonguous budget of $ 350-400 million. It is the costliest film ever made in the history of cinema. It also has a mammoth task of collecting $ 2 billion to enter into profit zone. Avatar 1 is still the highest grosser with $ 2.9 billion followed by Avengers Endgame with $ 2.7 billion and Titanic with $ 2.1 billion. The film is opening in 52,000 screens worldwide which is a massive and highest number till date.

Avatar 2 is releasing in 3000 screens in India. Disney - UTV are releasing the film in India. Though many producers, distributors from Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam industries approached to buy the film. Disney quoted exorbitant prices which made them drop from acquiring rights. Even then Disney has offered 30 percent in tickets to buyers, theatre owners. They even placed a condition to continue the film for Pongal season too. These demands didn't went well with many exhibitors especially in South States. Only national multiplex chains and big producer distributors who have good hold of theatres are signed to screen the film as per Disney UTV share percentage.

These factors restricted the film to big centers, the small ones like B and C centers are hesitating to screen the film as they fear going with their demands can result in loses as it is uncertain how the film fares after its initial four days. Another aspect is Hollywood films these days are only releasing with minimum 2K format. Small towns and rural areas doesn't still have 2K equipped screens. Whereas during 2009, for Avatar first part this is not the case. It was released in every nook and corner of rural India too and raked in huge openings.

Considering all these, it is interesting to see how Avatar 2 fares at the South India Boxoffice.
