Many cine lovers of current generation are in a sheer misconception that Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna's Aditya 369 was a super duper hit film and was a classic. Of course, the film was a well made product which offered a classic feel to the audience.
But then, the bitter truth is that Aditya 369 stood as a 'below average to average' venture those days. How can it be assessed? In those days, the highest run of 50 days and 100 days were taken as a criteria for a film's success range.
Aditya 369, which hit the screens on 18 July, 1991, ran 50 days directly in 15 centres with the highest run recorded in Tirupati (64 days). Obviously, the film ran 100 days in no single centre.
Incidentally, Megastar Chiranjeevi's industry hit Gang Leader, which released in the same year on 9 May, ran 50 days directly in 50+ centres and 100 days directly in 30 centres.
The mediocre run of Aditya 369 was due to it being a class film. Since Balakrishna had no great following in class sections, the film ended up an average venture.
And now, Balakrishna wants to make a sequel of Aditya 369 ensuring the debut of his son Mokshagna. Balayya should keep the result of Aditya 369 in mind before taking the film on the sets.
Meanwhile, the sequel of Aditya 369, titled as Aditya 999 Max, will go on the sets in 2022 and will release in 2023.
