‘Based on true incidents’ or ‘inspired by real story’ are the terms being heard quite often in Tollywood. The list of Tollywood films which are based on real incidents is big. While few films have already hit the screens, few others are gearing up for release this year.
Ravi Teja’s Krack is the first Tollywood film based on true incidents. As informed by director Gopichand Malineni, all the lead characters in the film really exists and the incidents took place in Ongole. The film stood as a blockbuster at box office.
Allari Naresh was going through tough phase with flops and his last movie Naandhi provided him much needed break. The film directed by Vijay Kanakamedala was inspired by true story of an innocent who was unnecessarily arrested in a crime which he didn’t commit.
There were many young farmers who inspired director Kishor B to make Sreekaram with Sharwanand. The director indeed gave credit to all the young farmers who proved that farming is also a profitable affair. However, for some reasons, the film is doing below par business at box office.
Vishnu Manchu’s ready for release film Mosagallu is based on a true series of incidents that shook the Indian IT Industry and conned a whopping $380 million (2,800 Crores). It is the biggest IT scam in the world. Directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin, Mosagallu will be releasing on 19th of this month.
Rana’s Pan India film Aranya is a fictional story based on true incidents. Rana plays Bandev, the jungle man, who stands up against urbanisation encroaching into jungle corridors. His character is inspired by environment activist Jadav Payeng. The Padma Shri winner converted more than 1300 acres of barren land into a reserve forest.
Wild Dog starring Nagarjuna is a film based on the real events surrounding the Hyderabad bomb blasts. Ashishor Solomon who directed Bollywood film John Day is making Tollywood debut with the film for which he recreated all the bomb blast incidents. This is one of the highly anticipated films releasing in summer. Wild Dog is scheduled for release on April 2nd.
Rana’s Virata Parvam reportedly revolves around Naxalite movement that took place in Telangana region in the 1990s. Sai Pallavi played Rana’s love interest in the film directed by Venu Udugula. Virata Parvam will see theatres on April 30th.
Adivi Sesh’s biographical film Major is based on the life of 2008 Mumbai attacks martyr Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, the film produced by Mahesh Babu, Sony Pictures and A+S Movies is scheduled to be released theatrically on 2nd July.
SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR is also a fictional story about India's freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (NTR) who fought against the British Raj and Nizam of Hyderabad respectively.
Making films based on true incidents seem to be a new trend in Tollywood!
