Looks like this is a season of comebacks in Telugu cinema. Many actresses who’ve nearly disappeared from the industry for many years are donning the greasepaint again. Filmmakers are constantly on the hunt for underexplored actors to ensure a fresh dimension to regular roles.
While Maine Pyaar Kiya-fame Bhagyashree is returning to Telugu cinema nearly after two decades (her last film was Avunaa in 2003) with Prabhas’ multilingual Radhe Shyam, another yesteryear heroine Zarina Wahab is making a comeback post an 11-year hiatus from the industry with Rana Daggubati-starrer Viraata Parvam. Both the actors play mothers to male leads in their respective films. Bhagyashree is as ravishing and fit as ever, while Zarina Wahab has consistently proved her acting mettle.
It’s already news that Manmadhudu, Raghavendra girl Anshu will play a key role in Jr NTR’s next with Trivikram that’ll go on floors shortly. Anshu had a very shortlived stint in Telugu films, with hardly three projects to her credit including a special appearance in Missamma. The latest news is that Ladies Tailor heroine Archana will be seen in Akash Puri’s film Chor Bazaar that was announced recently. Even Renu Desai has begun shooting for her comeback web series. There’s a dearth of quality supporting actors, character artistes in Telugu films and the same faces keep repeating time and again. One would hope these actresses capitalise on this situation to their advantage.
