There was a surprising lull in the career of Ritu Varma for a brief while in 2017, despite scoring reasonable successes like Pelli Choopulu, Yevade Subrahmanyam and Keshava in Telugu. The actress shifted her base to Kollywood briefly, bagging films like VIP 2, Dhruva Natchathiram, Kannum Kannum Kollayadithal (Kanulu Kanulu Dochayante in Telugu), but unfortunately, luck didn’t smile at her. VIP 2 flopped miserably, Dhruva Natchathiram got stuck in production woes and Kannum Kannum Kollayadithal took almost three years to release for reasons best known to makers.
However, the actress has been patient and didn’t panic. Impressively, the success of Kannum Kannum Kollayadithal and its Telugu dubbed version has brought back to her career. She got good press for her OTT debut in Gautham Menon’s short in Amazon Prime anthology. While the bilingual she signed with Sharwanand sometime ago may have a release a little later this year, her next release is Ninnila Ninnila, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual alongside Ashok Selvan and Nithya Menen, exclusively made for OTT. The film is scheduled for a February 26 release on Zee Plex.
Another high profile release after Ninnila Ninnila for Ritu is Tuck Jagadish with Nani. Tuck Jagadish’s promos and songs have generated good anticipation and insiders say the film has shaped up well. She is also shooting for Naga Shaurya’s next, Varudu Kavalenu. Most actresses in Ritu’s situation would have signed many films in the lull phase and exhausted their career early, but the actress trusted in her projects and her abilities. The wait has worked well to her advantage.
