C/o Kancharapalem was just another small-budget indie film that would have had a small release if Suresh Productions hadn’t acquired it. The Venkatesh Maha directorial produced by a New York-based medico Paruchuri Praveena won many hearts in the Telugu land and did reasonably well in the theatres considering its modest budget. Several actors who were a part of the film, including Karthik Rathnam, Mohan Bhagat, Subba Rao and Kishore have bagged notable roles in plum projects ever since. Now, the film’s Tamil remake Care of Kaadhal will hit theatres this week.
Notable producer, co-director for several Telugu films, Hemambar Jasti is directing and also reprising the role Raju, originally played by Subba Rao in the Tamil version. The film completed its shoot early last year and was indefinitely postponed due to the pandemic. Given the film is bound by a theme of love across various age groups, it’s apt that the makers have planned a Valentines Day weekend release on February 12.
Kishore and Karthik Rathnam are the only members from the original cast retained in the Tamil remake. The Telugu version’s success was owing to two reasons – it’s shoestring budget and excellent story/storytelling. Care of Kaadhal’s promos look promising and is full of new faces. The film certainly has a universal story and if given a good release, can spring a surprise.
