Victory Venkatesh’s ever green film Bobbili Raja completes three decades (30 years) today after release. The film was released on 14th September, 1990. Directed by B Gopal, Bobbili Raja was recorded as a massive blockbuster at the box office, besides winning critical accolades. Made under Suresh Productions, the film marks debut of late actress Divya Bharti.
Venkatesh’s mannerisms, B Gopal's screenplay, direction and Divya Bharti's gorgeous screen presence made Bobbili Raja one of the all-time favorites for movie buffs. Particularly fans cannot forget the dialogue- Ayyo Ayyo Ayyayyo uttered by Venkatesh.
The film had a 175-day run in 3 centres. It is Venkatesh's first silver-jubilee hit movie. Bobbili Raja was also the first film of of Venkatesh to run for 200 days. It became the second highest grossing Telugu film of the year, after Jagadeeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari.
Ilayaraja who composed melodious tunes for the film won Filmfare Award for Best Music Director – Telugu.
Story of the film was provided by Paruchuri Brothers while K Ravindra Babu handled cinematography.
Bobbili Raja was later dubbed into Tamil as Vaaliban and into Hindi as Rampur Ka Raja. The film was also remade in Hindi in 1993, titled Boy Friend.
Venkatesh who scored biggest hit of his career with F2 is presently doing Naarappa under the direction of Srikanth Addala.
