Several OTT players were in competition to acquire digital streaming rights of Nani and Sudheer Babu’s crime thriller V. Initially, producer Dil Raju was also reluctant for digital release. But, when things looked bleak with extension of lockdown, he thought of going for OTT release.
Fortunately, Nani, Sudheer Babu and director Mohanakrishna Indraganti too agreed for his proposal. Amazon Prime Video acquired the rights shelling out whopping Rs 33.22 crores which is equal to theatrical value of the film. As per the deal, the film can be released on theaters for a week, after the lockdown restrictions are lifted completely.
The film is now streaming on Amazon. But, it mostly received unenthusiastic reports. Indraganti who previously made some gripping and thrilling entertainers had botched to make this an engaging watch for the audience. Many felt that, the film has shades of Ghajini.
Analysts opine that had Dil Raju waited till theaters to re-open, he would have incurred huge losses given the story doesn’t have the potential to become a commercial success at box office. Although there would be good openings owing to positive buzz around it, it would have been massive task to recover the investment. Fortunately, the film released on OTT and Dil Raju enjoyed small profits.
