JVAS Release: What Exactly Happened on Day One?

Ever since the great depression was noted in the Bay of Bengal on 4th of May, 1990, Meteorologists had kept on announcing threatening messages through radios and Doordarshan to the people on possible cyclone centred at Machilipatnam. Proving their analyses right, the depression gradually intensified and turned as a super cyclone by 9 May, 1990 which just stood next to 1977 Diviseema cyclone.

It was May 9, 1990. People at entire coastal Andhra and in many parts of Telangana and Rayalaseema couldn't catch up the regular dawn and the daylight like before. Instead, the day welcomed them with heavy downpours all over. Knee deep water on streets was flowing down everywhere.

On that devastated day, Megastar Chiranjeevi and Sridevi starrer Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari hit the screens. Producer Aswini Dutt might have lost hopes on the opening collections of the film.

Yet, Chiranjeevi's mania made theatres turned packed houses despite some of them were inundated with rain waters. Mega fans, as usually, were ready to blow whistles and warbles throughout the film. And when Megastar appeared on screen, their joy knew no bounds. But then, the momentum couldn't sustain longer.

Sridevi appeared a real daughter of Indra. But then, some fans couldn't digest her grandhika Telugu dialogues. Some of the masses pooh poohed her dialogues. Having seen their responses some fans who had great analytical skills, were disappointed a bit. Yet, they found no fault even in a single frame of the film. That made them, heaved a sigh of relief despite some mixed responses from pucca masses.

The show was over. It was a Herculean task for the audience reaching houses in heavy rain. At homes, of course, they received another heavy rain of punches from their parents for making such a 'suicidal attempt' watching a film in such never witnessed rains.

Much to everyone's shocker, many audience dared to watch the film in subsequent shows in spite of incessant rains. Of course, the talk, which was mixed during fan shows, was set right by the evening. There had been positive reports from every nook and cranny.

Having seen the flood of fans in subsequent days, 'Rain God's ego was hurt and as a result there were heavy downpours for some more days. Sadly, the collection rain was much heavier than the cyclone. Finally, rain god escaped from the spot. But then, JVAS  didn't leave theatres till 175 days.

JVAS now stands one among all time top 25 classics of Tollywood.
