Many expected the film to release during the Dasara season or later and reports came that Venky Mama would enter the Sankranti race. This resulted in a lot of confusion among fans of Venkatesh. Finally, Suresh Babu who is producing the film confirmed that Venky Mama will entertain viewers on Dec 13, offering treat on Venkatesh's birthday.

Suresh Babu clarifying on the confusion over the release date said, “We never thought of pitting Venky Mama against biggies like Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa. We planned for either November or December release end finally decided Dec 13 as the release date. We wanted to ensure that the film does not get affected by the slack season."

Suresh Babu continued saying, “Generally November and December are considered as slack seasons in the industry. We are worried about the economic and poor collections of the films. This year it is extremely slack, we are unable to pay the power bills also forget about the salaries. This is across the world. Lack of good films, economy in poor condition, Netflix and Amazon affected the films collections. I am not worried about the film business but for the first time I am worried about the theatre business. I run many theatres and collections are so bad with occupancy at an all time low.

Even in Bangalore where multiple language films get screened, except for other languages in few theatres, the situation is the same. A sizeable amount of the population has stopped watching cinema in theatre and they only prefer to watch biggies like Saaho and Sye Raa in theatres. Cinemas have now become weekend and holiday business as we haven't made them conducive to people. The cost of food items etc in multiplexes also has its impact."

Suresh Babu continued saying, “In United AP we had 3000 theatres but now it came down to 1500 and across the state, 50% of the theatres have been shutdown. People like us who are running multiplex chains held together."

On Venky Mama’s release date, Suresh Babu said, “We never had any release on Venkatesh's birthday and so this time we wanted to make it big. Apart from it Salman Khan's Dabaang 3 is releasing on Dec 20 and as we are releasing here, I wish the film gets good business. If I release Venky Mama on Dec 25 on X Mas, it results in few films getting removed from theatres. Since I am also a distributor, I wish all films to do well and without any competition."
