Tollywood filmmakers got smitten by the craze of Bollywood market. Ever since the sensation of Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali, many started dreaming of conquering Bollywood market coming with pan India films.
But with the response the producers got for Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy despite the presence of Bollywood super star Big B Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role; they understood that unlocking Bollywood market is not that easy.
Young Rebel Star Prabhas' Saaho did well despite negative reviews in Bollywood but all that was due to Baahubali craze and had it not been so, he too would have got a similar shock.
Tollywood's craze for Bollywood market gave them huge shock as they lost two important markets. The two markets Karnataka and Overseas which used to act as a cushion now got crushed.
Whatever may be the reason, of late Telugu films are not doing well in Karnataka. Buyers who invested huge amounts on Saaho and Sye Raa faced huge losses. Even in Overseas, though Sye Raa was sold for reasonable rates, it did not save them for losses.
So from now on, there will be at least Rs 15-20 crs deficit in collections from Karnataka and Overseas market. Producers who till recently increased the remuneration of the stars and the film budget confident of the films business should now be careful in the future.
15 crs deficit in business means it is more than what producers make in their profits. With Tollywood market bubble got burst, producers who plan big budget films should be careful.
