Tollywood's age old mindset of a married actress not being desirable for major roles sadly still remains intact. We have witnessed numerous times how a heroine's marital status can prove to be a death knell for her career.

In Hollywood, it is common for married actresses to be super successful not only after marriage and motherhood, but in India the tides may be changing, but at a snail's pace. Our actresses no longer see the 'married' tag to be harmful to their careers in any way. But, stars and filmmakers are not keen to cast married heroines.

Samantha Akkineni who once was a most sought after actress in Tollywood and Kollywood is no different from other ‘married’ actresses as she too is not getting any films opposite star heroes of late. However, she is getting mostly female centric films.

Samantha herself proclaimed couple of years ago that offers dried up for her after she announced her marriage plans. She had previously said that she was unhappy about the limited roles that heroines had in films.

Rangasthalam was the last film she starred opposite a star hero. After that, she only acted in small to medium range film like Mahanati, U Turn and Majili. She will next be seen in a heroine oriented film Oh Baby which is scheduled for release on 5th July.

Samantha played a cameo in her father-in-law Nagarjuna’s next attraction Manmadhudu 2. She is also part of 96 Telugu remake starring Sharwanand in lead.

Another interesting aspect is those who are considering Naga Chaitanya for their films are approaching Samantha for female lead roles, as to cash on the craze for the ‘couple’. Thei first film after marriage- Majili was a blockbuster.
