Producers feel it’s a great opportunity to work with heroes. They in the quest to produce films with stars are hiking remuneration. Besides roping in highest paid directors, they are spending massive budgets. Even though star heroes films have the luxury of getting gigantic openings, the film’s fate surely depends on its budget and post release talk.
Coming to the actual point, super star Mahesh Babu’s films are turning out to be loss makers of late because of high budgets being spent on them. Srimanthudu was the last true blockbuster of Mahesh Babu. The Siva directorial too was made on high budget. But, thankfully, many factors like positive talk post release, no competition and other factors favored the film becoming a commercial hit.
Mahesh Babu then starred in Brahmotsavam which was an epic disaster and his Tamil debut flick Spyder turned out to be a disaster. His last movie Bharat Ane Nenu with Koratala Siva received positive response. However, the film ended up as a loss maker in few areas owing to high investment.
Likewise, makers of Mahesh Babu’s next outing Maharshi are also reeling under immense pressure as the budget exceeded by 30 to 40 % to the estimated budget. As per inner sources, the Vamsi Paidipally directorial needs to do miraculous business at theaters to recover the investment or else producers and buyers will incur heavy losses.
Analysts opine that, star heroes should cut down their pay and should not force producers for excess of lavishness in making. "Telugu films of star heroes are easing crossing 100 Cr mark. But, they are turning out to be cost failures, owing to high investments," they affirm.
