It was a dream to make Savitri’s biopic for director Nag Ashwin who fulfilled the dream with Mahanati which was a runaway hit at box office. He didn’t have any other intentions and he spent nearly 2 years on script to make sure the film will be engaging from start to end.

Post Mahanati’s release, Tollywood witnessed two more biopics of legendary personalities. Nevertheless, YSRCP with Yatra and Tdp with NTR Biopic hoped to influence voters through these films. How far did they success?

Yatra, the story about the historic padayatra of former CM Y S Rajasekhar Reddy that changed the course of Andhra Pradesh's politics, is turning out to be an average grosser. Makers of the film cleverly spent limited budget and they even requested NTR fans to watch it.

YSR’s son and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy indirectly lent his support through Sakshi media. YSRCP followers too backed the film which is the reason why the film registered decent numbers in its first week run.

However, NTR Biopic which was made in two parts- NTR Kathanayakudu and NTR Mahanayakudu is ending as an epic disaster. At least, Kathanayakudu collected full run share of 20 Cr. But, Mahanayakudu may not even collect one fourth of what Kathanayakudu minted at BO for its lifetime run.

Despite talk, NTR Biopic would have become a super hit, had at least Tdp followers watched the film. Apparently, Nandamuri fans and Tdp workers too have waited for the film’s talk and they seems to have dropped their plans of watching the film in theaters given that the film received negative talk.

When Tdp workers are not keen to watch the film, why would normal audience show any interest to watch it? Thus, theaters screening NTR Mahanayakudu are seen deserted even in weekend. The question is whether CBN whose role is given more significance than that of NTR has asked his party workers to watch the film!
