Sanjay Dutt biopic titled Sanju which hit the screens couple of days ago is attracting the attention of all. Ranbir Kapoor who played the lead role of Sanjay Dutt is winning all the appreciation from various quarters. However the film is courting various controversies.
Ahead of the film’s release, legal notices were served to Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Rajkumar Hirani for the insulting comments on sex workers and prostitutes. Even CBFC officials refused to give certificate to the film as they felt that the makers omitted many characters in Sanjay Dutt's life and they even gave clean chit to Sanjay Dutt.
Now, reports are coming out that the filmmakers got away by insulting Bharat Ratna Award Winner and former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee. Though they didn’t mention his name, through the character Anjan Srhivastava, who played the role of the political leader, they allegedly insulted him in a scene where he was seen fell asleep when Sanjay Dutt meets him to share his problems.
A voice over says, “We still don’t know whether he pretended to fall asleep to avoid hearing my problems, or if he actually fell asleep.” It is known that Sanjay Dutt met the then PM in 1999 to seek help to travel to New York.
Prasoon Joshi, Chairman of CBFC says, “We all knew whom the film is referring to, but he is only called ‘the politician’. If we had raised a hue and cry about it then that venerated politician’s name would’ve been out in the public domain. The film’s team would have denied it and so would the politician, we all know that.”
