Couple of days ago, South Film Industry called off their bandh which led to the closure of theatres for one week over their fight with Digital Service Providers.
However their action is drawing immense criticism from the small time filmmakers. Recently, Thammareddy Bharadwaj questioned the closure of theatres for just single issue while the industry is plagued by various problems. He said the industry should have gone for closure of theatres demanding solving of all the problems.
Now revolutionary filmmaker R.Narayanamurthy expressed his anger with the action of the Tollywood biggies.
Speaking to scribes he said, "The bandh is continuing in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada industries. Why did Tollywood biggies called off the strike even before the DSPs implement their promise to offer their services free after five years. Only the workers in the film industry suffered due to the bandh which didn’t serve any purpose.
Everyone supported the bandh call with the hope of reduction of digital service charges will help everyone. Now just to serve the selfish deeds of a few, the industry called off the bandh. For this result, biggies like Gemini Kiran, Suresh Babu, Allu Aravind could have held discussions with the DSPs and arrived at the solution.
Due to lack of unity in the industry we failed to achieve anything though we sat on protests and fasts. The bandh was called off just after the DSPs agreed to reduce 2000 Rs while actually they demanded abolition of the service charges."
Many opine that, industry biggies should have also asked opinion of small time filmmakers before calling off the strike.
