Star MAA spent a bomb to acquire the rights of Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna's historical magnum opus 'Gauthamiputra Satakarni'. On the auspicious day of Ugadi, the film's premiere was broadcasted by the channel.

* Prior to the release, an artificial hype on GPS was created by pro TDP channels seeking better mileage to Balakrishna politically.

* And most importantly, GPS was made locking horns with Megastar Chiranjeevi's 'Khaidi Number 150'.

* GPS was kept in news headlines denying permission of 'Khaidi Number 150's pre release event in Vijayawada and Guntur cities.

* Eventually, Sankranthi festival's advantage, competition with 'Khaidi Number 150' and media's unprecedented hype made 'GPS earning respectable shares at the box office.

* When GPS set for television screening, none of the factors above, obviously, helped the film. As a result real strength of the film appeared to have been revealed. Had Balayya and Krish put additional effort, the movie could have become a real magnum opus at the ticket windows.
