Eminent singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and actor Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna breathed his last on Tuesday evening, 22nd of November, 2016 in Chennai. He was 86. Born at Shankaraguptham, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on 6 July, 1930, Balamuralikrishna had done mastery over Carnatic music.
Balamuralikrishna started his career at the age six. From then on he has given as many as 25,000 concerts across the globe. He popularized the compositions of Bhadrachala Ramadasu and Sri Annamayya. He extended his work on music therapy as well. Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna's compositions were ranging from devotional to varnas, krithis and javalis.
Balamuralikrishna left his mark in cine industry as well. He sang popular songs such as 'Salalitharagasudhasaram' (Narthanasala), 'Mouname nee bhasha (Guppedumanasu) etc. He made his acting debut with Narada role in 'Bhaktha Prahlada (1967).
Balamuralikrishna received numerous awards and honours at state, national and international level. He was honoured with India's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan.Padma Bhushan, Padma Sri, honourary doctorates from various universities were other honours received by Balamuralikrishna. He was made Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005.
