Vijay Sethupathi, known for his versatility and impactful performances, recently revealed why he turned down an offer to act opposite Krithi Shetty in Ponram's 2022 film "DSP."
The actor, who had previously played Krithi's father in Buchi Babu Sana's 2021 Telugu film "Uppena," felt it wouldn't be appropriate to portray a romantic interest. He explained, "She is a little older than my son. I told them I couldn’t do it."
Sethupathi's decision reflects a genuine respect for familial boundaries and a desire to maintain a comfortable dynamic with Krithi, whom he had developed a fatherly bond with during "Uppena."
This wasn't the first time the actor spoke about refusing to romance Krithi on-screen. He previously expressed his concerns about playing a romantic lead opposite her, emphasizing his fatherly role in "Uppena" and the need to avoid any potential awkwardness.
Instead of Krithi, Anukreethy Vas was cast as Annapoorani, Vascodagama's love interest in "DSP." The film, however, received mixed reviews upon release.
Moving forward, Vijay Sethupathi has a busy schedule with upcoming releases including "Maharaja," "Viduthalai 2," and a silent film titled "Gandhi Talks." Meanwhile, Krithi Shetty is set to star opposite Sharwanand in Sriram Adittya's "Manamey," slated to release on June 7th.
Vijay Sethupathi's decision to prioritize his paternal relationship with Krithi over romantic on-screen chemistry highlights his respect for familial bonds and a commitment to creating a comfortable work environment for all involved.
