Condemning the arrest of Telugu Desam leader N Chandrababu Naidu in Maharashtra, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday sought Centre’s intervention in solving the inter-state river water dispute.

Venkaiah demanded action against the police high-handedness for lathi-charging on the Telugu Desam legislators who went to inspect the Babli site.

The Bjp leader blamed the Centre for the conflict between the states. “If the Centre intervenes at the appropriate time, this kind of law and order situation would not arise at all,” he stated.

The parties have divergent opinions on sharing river waters. However, the Centre should prevail upon the concerned states and solve the disputes in a coordinated  manner, he suggested.

Venkaiah also condemned the attitude of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in the way the leader of the Opposition was treated.
