HC stays SHRC order on Aata

Acting on a petition filed by producers of 'Aata' reality show, being telecast on Zee Telugu, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday suspended the order issued by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), which imposed a blanket ban on the realty show.

Accepting the petition filed by producers Zee Entertainment Enterprisers Ltd against the SHRC, the High Court also  issued notices to the concerned parties to the plea and questioned the legitimacy of the verdict.

The Z-Channel along with N Omkar on Thursday  moved the AP High Court challenging the order passed by the State Human Rights Commission against the telecast of shows featuring children. 

The show producers filed two separate writ petitions in the High Court saying that SHRC abruptly passed the orders without giving the show producers an opportunity to present their version. The petitioner further claimed that they would suffer heavy financial losses if the show was withdrawn abruptly.

The petitioners also claimed that the SHRC passed its orders without application of mind. The petitioner sought an interim suspension of the SHRC order. City police commissioner A K Khan, meanwhile, informed newsmen that many TV channels have complied with the notice issued by police asking them to refrain from broadcasting objectionable content. 

Acting on the APSHRC and High Court's orders, the city police issued notices to various TV channels to halt broadcasting programmes with obscene, violent content which violate child rights.
