Senior Congress leaders led by MLC Palvai Govardhan Reddy on Wednesday met Governor E S L Narasimhan and discussed with him the need to change the design of the Polavaram Project.
Interacting with the media after meeting Governor ESL Narasimhan, Palvai said the meeting with Governor was a routine affair to explain to him the importance of changing the design of polavarm project so as to benefit the Telangana region. Except bringing the Polavarm issue to the notice of the Governor, there is not much significance in the delegation meeting the Governor.’’
Following a phone call from AICC General Secretary Veerappa Moily, the senior leaders have dropped the idea of complaining to the Governor against Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiahr Irrigation Minister. According to sources, Moily asked the senior leaders not to meet the Governor.
Moily even urged them not to pass any adverse comments which will drive the Government into a piquant situation. Any thing to be discussed it will be done only after the by-polls.
In deference to Moily’s advice, the senior Congress leaders from Telangana, who met the Governor on Wednesday, said they expressed nothing on the functioning of the Government or the charges against Ponnala.
Pavai noted that Moily had extended an invitation to senior Congress leaders of Telangana to visit Delhi after the by-polls to discuss things. During the visit, Palvai hoped to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
