Hyderabad, Aug 21:
Film-star-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam Party founder on Friday urged the state government to take concrete measures to help the drought-hit farmers.
As the House took up a debate on the prevailing drought situation in some parts of the state, the Prp leader said that the state government was yet to declare drought-hit areas despite hardships being faced by farmers and people throughout the state. He does not find any reason why the government is delaying in declaring the state as drought-hit.
“They are seeking financial assistance to meet the crisis caused by the scanty monsoon,” he said and added that the government should immediately come up with a financial package for the affected farmers or else people will be forced to commit suicide.
He appealed to the government to increase power supply and subsidize diesel for farmers to help them overcome the adverse impact of the current drought-like situation.
He asked the government to identify the habitations with acute shortage of drinking water and provide water from nearest sources.
He urged government extend crop insurance benefit for all farmers to prevent them from committing suicides. He also urged all Ministers and MLAs to visit their districts to give moral and physical support for the distressed farmers during the crisis hour.
