About ten people have been killed due to collapse of sheds or after being struck by lightning in different parts of Andhra Pradesh on Wedneday. The Laila Cyclone which played havoc with the villages in the Coastal Andhra uprooted many trees and razed many electric poles to the ground in all the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Confirmed reports say that 120 fishermen who went for fishing in 60 boats in Nellore district are reported to be missing on Wednesday. It is believed that the missing fishermen were caught up in the islands of Chinna Mangodu and Ped Mongudu islands in Bay of Bengal. The District Collector of Nellore sought the help of Coast Guard personnel in rescuing these fishermen.
Meanwhile the temple town of Tiupati in Chittoor district and Anantapur district in Rayalaseema region also experienced heavy rains under the influence of Laila Cyclone.
Roads were inundated with water as there was a continuous downpour. Electric wires snapped at several places and fell on roads causing traffic disruption.
In Anantapur district, 150 electric poles were razed to the ground causing extensive disruption of power supply in villages in Atmakur Mandal.
