In an effort to consolidate its position in the forthcoming byelections, the ruling Congress is out to take a few harsh decisions which may surprise many, but at the same time it is paving the way for the smooth handing of delicate issues.
According to insiders of the Congress party, Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas, who will complete his term by June will be nominated to Rajya Sabha.
The decision has been taken to keep DS off state politics.Ever since it came to light that the PCC chief may find it difficult to win the by-elections from Nizamabad, the High Command was seeking various alternatives to accommodate him in some position so as to keep him off state politics.
The choice looks right from many angles. DS, who will be relinquishing the PCC chief post does not enjoy good relationship with Chief Minister KRosaiah.
Of late, even the Telangana Congress leaders too seem to be annoyed with DS for he could not spell out his clear-cut stand on Telangana and he could not even use his influence to garner moral support from senior Congress leaders in Delhi for separate Telangana. Under these circumstances, it is convenient for DS to go into hibernation by opting for RS.
On one hand, he will have the satisfaction of holding on to some power and on the other, there will be some contentment to his followers.
