Naidu seeks package for weavers

Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu demanded a special package for 55 lakh weavers in the state, who were dependent on weaving for their livelihood.

Talking to weavers from Mahabubnagar during Ishtagoshti programme on Wednesday, he said  the weaving industry in the state was facing a crisis as the government was not extending support to them financially.

The weavers said they were not getting even Rs 50 after toiling for more than 10 hours a day. Due to the indifference of government, nearly 700 weavers have committed suicide in the state, they said.
