Chief Minister K Rosaiah led the state in paying homage to Dr Br Ambedkar on his birth anniversary by garlanding the Architect of India’s Constitution at Tank Bund here on Wednesday.
Leaders from across the political spectrum, including Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, Legislative Council chairman, Dr A Chakrapani BJP, Lok Satta, and PRP leaders, representatives of several Dalit organisations and the general public also paid glowing tributes to the Architect of India’s Constitution.
Talking to reporters, Mr Naidu stated that Dalits today were enjoying many benefits because of Ambedkar’s attempts. He said Dr Ambedkar’s aspiration as the framer of the statute has not been fulfilled till today and blamed the elected representatives for this. He criticized the state government for neglecting the Dalits by allotting meagre fund in the budget.
Dr Chakrapani also described Dr Ambedkar as a visionary and idealist who bagged the highest national award 'Bharat Ratna' posthumously.
Dr Chakrapani said Dr Ambedkar believed in hard work, sincerity and the view that merit alone gives dignity to a person, irrespective of caste, creed and religion.Keeping in view the different religions, cultures and regions, Dr Ambedkar, was named 'Abhinava Manuvu'.
After garlanding the Ambedkar's statue Lok Satta president Jayaprakah Narayan said the Constitution was aimed at creating a society without discrimination based on religion, caste, region and language.He said Ambedkar likened the Constitution to a temple and underlined the need to maintain its sanctity and to make politics a noble profession.
