CID report pulls up 6 cops for attack on scribes

Additional Director General of Police A Sivanarayana of Crime Investigation Department (Cid), who was appointed to probe the attacks on journalists, on Osmania University (OU) campus, on Tuesday submitted his report to Director General of Police (DGP) R R Girish Kumar.

Submitting his report to DGP, Sivanarayana recommended disciplinary action against six police officials, who were responsible for the violence at Osmania University.

The government instituted an inquiry into the violence as more than 20 persons including students and journalists were beaten up by the police on Feb 14. The police also damaged video cameras of journalists.

Girish Kumar said the government would take action against the guilty police on the recommendations of the report.

Earlier, the government had agreed to pay compensation for the damage or loss of video cameras and vehicles belonging to the media following a threat by the media to boycott Chief Minister K Rosaiah's budget speech.
