Senior Actress Wins Over Young Hero

Senior actress Sumalatha, wife of Kannada legendary actor Ambareesh and BJP-supported independent candidate from Mandya parliament constituency for the 2019 polls has won against Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy’s son and former PM Deve Gowda’s grandson Nikhil Deve Gowda.

Sumalatha contested as an independent after she was denied ticket by the Congress. The BJP backed her by not fielding a candidate here. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the JDS defeated all eight Congress candidates in Mandya.

In 2014, the seat was won by CS Puttaraju of JD(S) when he beat current Congress social media head and actor Divya Spandana (Ramya) who had won the bypoll here in 2013. In 2009, N Chaluvaraya Swamy of JD(S) won with a margin of 23K votes by beating Ambareesh of the Congress. Before that the seat was held by Ambareesh for several years.

It is known that, almost entire Kannada industry supported Sumalatha as her late husband used to share great rapport with all his co-stars and young generation actors.
