Hyderabad, Jan 22: Expecting that the Andhra Pradesh High Court would intervene, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya janata Party, on Friday moved the HC seeking instructions to the State Government to allow conduct of the proposed ‘Vidyarthi Ranabheri’ at the Nizam’s College Grounds here on Jan 23 (Saturday). The ABVP has proposed to hold the Ranabheri to express its solidarity with the Telangana statehood demand. Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Sushma Swaraj is also expected to attend the Ranabheri.
ABVP leader R Shashidhar Reddy has said the Congress Government had denied permission to the students as it is afraid of the presence of several BJP leaders at the proposed meeting. However, the student group argues that it has a democratic right to hold public meetings and hopes that the High Court would allow it to organize the Ranabheri. It plans to mobilize thousands of students from different parts of Telangana for the Vidyarthi Ranabheri.Several pro-Telangana organizations and political parties have urged the Government to permit ABVP to hold the meeting.
The ABVP move to knock the doors of the courts comes in the wake of the High Court allowing the Vaidya Garjana, being proposed by the Medical students scheduled for Friday on Osmania Medical College premises. The High Court, however, issued conditional orders to the Telangana Vaidya Garjana organizers to ensure that only doctors, medicos and paramedics are allowed to the meeting after showing their identity cards to the police. No provocative speeches should be delivered at the meeting, to be held between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the court insisted.
