180 held for statewide violence: DGP

Hyderabad, Jan 8: Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar on Friday said the police registered 96 cases and arrested 180 people in the wake of attacks on Reliance Groups business malls across the state.After attending a review meeting convened by Chief Minister K Rosaiah and Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on the law and order situation in the state, the DGP told newsmen that a local TV channel news telecast against the Ambanis triggered violence across the state.

He said the government would book a case against the TV channel for airing such controversial news without verifying the facts properly which provoked the people to resort to violence.He also appealed to the people against getting carried away by such rumours spread by such channels. He asked the people to observe restraint and maintain peace.
