TS Govt firm on waiving off weavers' loans

Information Technology Minister K Tarakama Rao on Wednesday said that the State Government was firm on waiving off weavers' loan up to Rs 1 lakh each.

Speaking to media persons here, Ktr said that the TRS Government would waive off the loans of weavers and it would cost nearly Rs 15-20 crore on the State's exchequer. He said that the governement was taking all measures to support the weavers in the State. He said there were nearly 50,000 people are associated with about 36,000 power looms in Telangana.

Ktr informed that the Centre has been requested to establish Mega Power loom Clusters in Sircilla and efforts were on to modernise the power looms in Gadwal, Pochampally and other handloom centres in the State.

Meanwhile, Handloom Development Commissioner Dinesh Kumar informed that last year handlooms had a record export of Rs 2,300 crore and this year the target has been enhanced to Rs 2,500 crore.
