Hyderabad,Nov 30:Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Monday expressed confidence over winning the Mayoral post in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, for which elections were held on Nov 23.After chairing a Cabinet meeting for the first time after being elected Congress Legislature Party leader,the Chief Minister said though the party did not fare well in the GHMC elections, it would win the Mayoral post with the support of 96 ex-officio members. He said the Congress failed to live up to its own expectations,and bagged 52 seats though it won 14 out of 24 assembly seats in the GHMC limits in the April-May assembly elections. It required at least 69 seats to grab the mayor's post.The Cabinet meeting condemned the violence which erupted on Osmania University campus injuring at least 10 students.
Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar briefed the law and order situation in the state particularly in Telangana region following the arrest of TRS leader K Chandrasekhara Rao.The Cabinet meeting felt that the police should restrain the agitated students and not unleash terror against peacefully agitating students.The Cabinet also aproved recruitment of 1987 posts to fill vacancies in AP Transco and agreed to implement pay revision commission recommendations for the state government employees.The Cabinet also decided to take a loan of Rs 648 crore from the World Bank to complete pending project works in various districts.
