Campaigning for GHMC election comes to an end

Hyderabad,Nov 21: Loud speakers stopped blaring giving the general public the much-needed relief as the campaigning came to an end on Saturday evening for the November 23 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation  elections.Count down began for about 1300 candidates contesting for the 150 divisions in the Ghmc limits.With barely two days left for the D-Day.The political parties switched to establishing personal contact with voters by way of door-to-door canvassing from the acrimony of accusations against one another.According to the Forum  for Good Governance there are 46 criminals who are contesting in these polls.

Although the Ghmc elections are   in for a triangular contest among Congress,Telugu Desam Party and  Majlis-e-Ittehad –ul-Muslimee,the first two parties are evenly poised in many segments while the MIM is confident of winning  many seats in the Old City.Leaders of various parties tried their best to woo the electorate.Jaganmohan Reddy,MP from Kadapa spearheaded the Congress campaign while the TDP wasled by none other than their president Nara Chandrababu Naidu.The Praja Rajyam Party campaign wasled by Chiranjeevi with his brother Pavan Kalyan keeping away from the electioneering  scene.

Dr Jaiprakash Narain campaigned for the LokSatta party while Venkaiah  Naidu took the brunt of campaigning for Bhratiya Janata Party.In certain segments of the Old city MBT also carried on intensive campaign pleading the people to vote for a change.During the campaign the Congress leaders had to face some embarrassing moments when people in the city questioned them on the condition of roads in the city,the drinking water problem and the drainage system.
