Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy retired from service here on Monday.

Reddy, who took charge as the DGP on June 30th, 2011, took the salute at of ceremonial farewell parade at the SAR CPL Parade Ground at Amberpet.

Dinesh Reddy's achievements include strengthening of police force in the State. As many as 13,023 personnel including 1254 SIs and RSIs, 61 DSPs and 11,708 SCT PCs joined the force during his tenure. The present police force, including the probationers, stands at 1,29,578.

He was instrumental in getting tax exemptions for items sold in police canteens, education and personal loans on low interest rates for police personnel and other welfare measures. Introduction of Dial 100 and Sub-Controls for assistance to public were among the people-centric initiatives taken by him.

Dinesh Reddy received a pat for the controlling Maoists activities in the State and he also handled the statehood agitations although his role was criticised on several occasions by the pro-Telangana leaders.

He retired from the service on Monday after the Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected his plea challenging the decision of Hyderabad bench of Central Administrative Tribunal which refused to extend his term for one more year.
