CPI (M) threatens protest over release of water to Krishna Delta

Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary B V Raghavulu on Tuesday demanded that the State Government stop release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to Krishna delta for khariff operations.

In a letter written to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Raghavulu alleged that the state government has taken a `unilateral’ decision to releasing water to Krishna Delta from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam without bothering about drinking water needs of Nalgonda district. He said that the government’s 'unilateral' decision was widening rift between the Seemandhra and Telangana regions.

Despite the water levels in Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar touching rock bottom level, he asked as how the government could release water to Krishna Delta violating the interests of one region. In the letter, Raghavulu demanded that Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy convene an all-party meeting to discuss the water position in the Nagarjuna Sagar project and withdraw his orders.

The CPI (M) leader threatened that he would intensify agitation against the government if it goes ahead with releasing of water to Krishna Delta.
