Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday stated that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram should set a deadline for stakeholders to make their stand clear on Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to media persons, Ponnam Prabhakar said that the parties were escaping to make their stand on Telangana as the Centre has not set any deadline on the issue. “If Chidambaram sets deadline, the parties will make their stand clear on the issue and the Centre can take a decision on Telangana issue speedily,” he stated.

Ponnam appealed to the government to book criminal cases including attempt to murder cases against those leaders who are provoking the students to end their lives on the Telangana issue. If the government book serious cases, the leaders will restrain from make serious and inflammatory remarks, he claimed. 

The Karimnagar MP lashed out at Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for his refusal to take up discussion on the Telangana issue in the 29 days of budget session of Assembly. He demanded that the government pass a resolution on Telangana in the House to help the Centre to take a decision on the issue. 

“There is no need to change Chief Minister in the State and we have to change his style of functioning to improve party's position,” he stated.
