Pradesh Congress Committee Coordination Committee member D Srinivas on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Congress party candidates would emerge victorious in the ensuing by-elections in the Telangana region.
Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Srinivas said that the political situation in the region has changed a lot compared to 2010 and all party candidates were in a position to campaign peacefully without any threat from Telangana activists. He asked the TRS to explain to people of region what they would achieve with by-election results.
Srinivas criticized the TRS for turning the resignations on statehood issue as 'fashionable' and wasting the public money in the name of by-elections. He said that the situation would not have come to such level if the Congress party would have established second States Re-organisation Commission after its tie-up with TRS in 2004.
Stating that the Congress never cheated the people on the statehood, he said unlike other parties, the Congress never expected political mileage on Telangana issue. He admitted that the Centre delayed the Telangana issue as vested elements hatched conspiracy to disrupt the law and order situation in the region.
Srinivas said that he would campaign in Kamareddy constituency along with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday and participate in campaign in Adilabad on March 15.
Responding to the Supreme Court serving notices to six ministers over the controversial GOs, he said that the party would respect the court's directions and law would takes its course.
