Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday announced that there was no proposal to privatise the State Road Transport Corporation.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa Satyanarayana condemned reports appeared in a section of media that the government was planning to privatize the RTC. “There is no truth in those reports. They are baseless and mere speculation," he said. He claimed that the RTC was financially sound only during the Congress regime.

Stating that nearly 10,000 more buses were needed for the State, the Transport Minister stated that the corporation was giving top priority to operate the services in villages.

Regarding the campaign for the by-elections, the PCC chief said that Tirupati MLA K Chiranjeevi would campaign in Kovvur Assembly constituency from March 11-15. He said that he would join Chiranjeevi in Kovvur assembly segment on March 15. He said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and himself would campaign jointly in the Telangana region from March 11-15.

Botsa said that a massive public convention would be held on March 9 in Kovvur which would be addressed by the Chief Minister. The district in-charge ministers and local leaders have been directed to campaign in their respective constituencies for the by-elections, he said.

Botsa also announced the names of three District Congress Committee presidents. While K Madhu Sudhan Gupta has been named as DCC president for Anantapur, D Venkateswarlu has been nominated for East Godavari district and Obedullah Kotwal for Mahbubnagar district.
