Telugu Desam star campaigner Nandamuri Balakrishna on Thursday stated that he was ready to contest the by-elections, if party directs him to do so.
Talking to media persons after hoisting the tri-colour at Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, Balakrishna said that he would abide by the party's decision in this regard. “If party directs me to contest the by-elections, I will oblige and support the party in all aspects,” he stated.
Balakrishna's statement assumes importance as Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu had announced on Wednesday that Balakrishna would not contest in the by-elections and would only enter the electoral politics only during 2014 general elections.
This time Balakrishna completely avoided making any comments or giving reactions on ertstwhile Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi's comments on his political plans.
Earlier Chiranjeevi described Balakrishna as child in the politics. Later, Balakrishna accused Chiranjeevi of selling his party for political positions.
Balakrishna also challenged Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal to resign from his post and win the next elections to prove his strength. Responding to NTR Telugu Desam party president Laxmi Parvathi's statement that Balakrishna would lose deposits if he contests on TDP ticket, he said nobody would take her comments seriously.
Balakrishna also announced that he would soon launch his tour in the Telangana region.
Later he inaugurated a blood donation camp at Motinagar.
