Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao on Saturday admitted that Telangana Congress MPs have failed to mount pressure on the high command at an appropriate time for the cause of Telangana statehood.

Talking to media persons, Keshava Rao said that the MPs from Telangana region lacked commitment and political will to achieve statehood for the region. However, he reiterated that the MPs would rectify their mistakes and intensify statehood agitation. He expressed confidence that the government would make an announcement before the budget session of the Parliament on bifurcation of state.

Keshava Rao warned that the Congress party would be washed out in Telangana region if it fails to announce favourable decision on the issue. “There is no use fielding Congress candidates in the upcoming by-elections from the Telangana region,” he stated. The MPs from the region would convene a meeting soon to chalk out future course of strategy to be adopted on the issue.

Stating that the Telangana issue could be resolved through dialogue, the MP said that the Telangana leaders were ready to hold consultations with Seemandhra leaders in this regard.

Responding to dropping of Dr P Shankar Rao from the State cabinet, he said that the high command should have informed him before taking such a harsh decision.
