Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Friday stated that only 50 percent of people in Telangana region were in favour of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Talking to media persons after unfurling Gazal Srinivas statue, whose name entered Guiness Book of Records three times for creating record in singing of Gazals, at Palakollu in West Godavari district, Lagadapati Rajagopal said that the Telangana statehood demands enjoys the support of only 50 percent of the population in the region.
Quoting a survey that he has conducted, Lagadapati said that 90 percent of people in the Andhra Pradesh were against the division of the State. They fear that the overall development would be affected if the State is bifurcated. In the survey, the Seemandhra people stated that the State could make rapid strides in all sectors if it remains integrated, he claimed.
The Vijayawada MP alleged that Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao has launched a malicious campaign against Seemandhra people by stating that they were looting properties, lands and natural wealth of Telangana. He said that Telangana was destroyed completely due to landlords in the region since independence.
Even if Telangana is granted statehood, he said that the landlords like KCR and his family members would benefit from it and the poor people in region would get only a raw deal. He said he has recently sent a statement, CDs and books to KCR showing how landlords have looted the Telangana.
